Gymnastic activities: floorwork - Gaby

Activity Description

Gaby has been working to develop her body tension whilst performing a short sequence. She is working to develop smooth movements from one position of stillness to another. This is part of her preparation for completing core task 1 in unit 6 for gymnastic activities in the QCA/DCSF scheme of work.

The video clip shows Gaby's sequence in which she has worked hard to create controlled movements with a clear beginning, middle and end.

Activity Objectives

To remember, repeat and link a combination of gymnastic actions, body shapes and balances with control and precision.

To choose simple compositional ideas in a sequence they create and perform.

Commentary

Gaby shows that she knows her sequence reasonably well. She is able to perform a good variety of her chosen gymnastic actions with reasonable accuracy and body tension. She can remember and repeat skills and actions with basic control and coordination. She is beginning to link these skills and actions into a sequence that has changes in speed and direction. Gaby's work shows characteristics of level 2.

To improve her work, Gaby needs to develop the fluency and to build more changes in speed and direction into the links in her sequence.
