Gymnastic activities: pair sequence - Nicola
Activity Description
Nicola and her partner have been designing their sequence for two lessons. They are completing the core task in the intermediate gymnastic unit from the QCA/DCSF scheme of work. The clip shows the pupils refining their skills and agilities, and the flow and timing of their sequence. Nicola identifies that some skills need further practice and suggests how timing can be improved.
Activity Objectives
To design and create a sequence using compositional principles.
To adapt the sequence, accounting for each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
To analyse their performance and suggest how it can be improved.
To ensure the sequence flows by improving the timing.
Commentary
Nicola selects and combines skills and gymnastic techniques with consistent precision, control and fluency. She has a good grasp of compositional principles, which she has applied effectively in designing the sequence. Her analysis and commentary on how the skills, techniques and ideas have been used is accurate and comprehensive and she identifies clear areas for improvement. The sequence makes good use of floor and apparatus. It flows, makes good use of space and incorporates effective changes in level, speed and direction. The knowledge and skills demonstrated are applied in a sequence that is suitably complex and demanding for the end of key stage 3. Nicola’s skills, knowledge and understanding show some characteristics of level 6 work. She can improve her performance by further developing tension and extension.
