Gymnastic activities: sequence work - Rebecca

Activity Description

Rebecca has been asked to design a sequence on her own using floor and apparatus. The sequence has to include six to eight actions incorporating flight, rolls and balances.

In this clip she is practising her sequence to improve wrist control and flow. In future lessons she will be asked to adapt her sequence so that it can be performed with a partner using synchronisation or canon.

Activity Objectives

To apply techniques for gymnastic activities with control and precision.

To use compositional principles in designing and creating sequences.

To practise sequences to improve their design and the quality of the performance.

Commentary

Rebecca performs a sequence with consistent precision, control and fluency. She shows a sound understanding of composition in its design. This is characteristic of level 5.

Some of her movements require further extension in order to improve the quality of the work. The skills she uses meet the requirements of the task but are not advanced. She knows her sequence well and has incorporated changes in direction, level and speed. To make the next step, Rebecca will need to use more advanced skills and show greater quality in her movements by improving the tension and extension in her body.
